Elephant herd creates havoc in Keonjhar: crops, houses destroyed

Keonjhar, Sept 17: Rampaging elephant herds damaged crops over acres of area under Champua forest range in Keonjhar district on Friday. The farmers in the villages under Champua have been spending sleepless nights with the elephants on the rampage. The herd of elephant have entered into the human habitation in search of food. Last night they destroyed acres of crops of one Hemant Mahanta of Bhanda village. It is a regular affair for the people of several villages in the area and they are living in fear and panic as forest department has failed to prevent the pachyderms from entering villages. Villagers have lost their cultivated crops and houses.
