Dhenkanal: A tusker died after coming in contact with live electric wires near Dudurukota village under Hindol Forest Range in Dhenkanal district last night.
Some locals spotted the carcass of the jumbo lying on a farmland and informed the forest departments. Villagers alleged that poachers planted 11 kv electric wire to protect their crops from wild boars. The elephant came in contact with the high tension wire and got electrocuted.
On being informed, forest officials reached the spot and seized body of the animal for post-mortem.
Notably, as many as seven elephants were electrocuted after coming in contact with sagging live wire at Kamalanga village under Sadar Forest Range in Dhenkanal district on October 26. The incident had sparked State wide hue and cry.
