Bhubaneswar: Names of candidates for the Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies for the upcoming elections will be sent to CEC by February 25 and final candidates’ list will be announced by March first week, informed Congress Screening Committee chairperson VD Satheesan here today.
The Congress has scrutinised the shortlisting candidates for the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the state with All India Congress Committees (AICC) Screening Committee chairman for Odisha VD Satheesan and member Naushad Solanki discussing with party leaders and aspirants at Bhubaneswar and Berhampur, respectively since Wednesday.
Satheesan and Naushad have scrutinised the list of probable candidates for 11 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats, where chances of victory is high for the party, and 77 Assembly constituencies coming under the 11 parliamentary segments during their three-day stay ending today.
Earlier Satheesan said that priority will be given those, who have been working at the grassroots and are connected to people. Winnability, women and youths will be given preference.
Recently, five key leaders, including three sitting MLAs Naba Kishore Das (Jharsuguda), Jogesh Singh (Sundargarh) and Krishna Sagaria (Koraput) deserted the party.
