Deogarh, Aug 29: In a tragic turn of events, the body of an elderly woman who had been missing for nearly four days was recovered today in Riamal block of Odisha’s Deogarh district.
The deceased has been identified as Rangabati Pradhan (70), wife of former Sarpanch of Koradapasi village under Kundheigola police limits in the district.
As per reports, Rangabati had gone missing on August 25 following which her son filed a missing report at the Kundheigola police station.
While a search was underway at various locations, locals from the area spotted her body near the Tikira riverbank in Kundheigola and informed the family as well as alerted the body.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and recovered the elderly woman's body around 9 AM today. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
Though the exact cause of death remains unclear, preliminary reports suggest that Rangabati might have accidentally drowned. The cops are suspecting that she might have fallen into the water while attempting to cross or was swept away by the current.
An unnatural death case has been registered, and further investigation into the matter is underway, said the police.
