Brahmapur, Aug 17: In a gruesome incident, an elderly man was stabbed to death following a heated argument in Sheragada locality of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The deceased has been identified as Nilanchala Mishra.
As per reports, a heated exchange of words ensued between the accused, identified as Ranjan Kumar Panda, and Nilanchala over some issue last night. It later took a violent turn when Ranjan, in fit of rage, stabbed Nilanchala with a knife and fled from the scene.
In the attack, he sustained grievous injuries following which he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Later, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur as his health condition showed signs of deterioration.
Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Upon getting the information, Sheragada police arrived at the scene and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
A probe has been initiated into the matter and efforts are on to nab the absconding culprit, said the police.
