Elderly man hacked to death in Odisha on suspicion of practising sorcery

Mayurbhanj, Nov 27: In a bizarre incident, a man allegedly hacked an elderly man with axe on suspicion of practising sorcery in the Bahalda area of the Mayurbhanj district late on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Mansingh Soren of Jagannathpur village in Bahalda tehsil. According to the report, some miscreants late on Friday night arrived at the victim’s house and knocked at the door. When Mansingh opened the door three armed miscreants attacked him and his wife Salahamani with sharp weapons killing Mansingh on the spot while his wife sustained critical injuries. Later on Saturday morning, locals spotted the duo in a pool of blood and informed Bahalda police. Being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the body. Subsequently, the injured was rushed to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College & Hospital in Baripada. Further investigation is on to identify and nab the accused, said a police official. Prima facie, it is suspected that the incident might have taken place over suspicion of practising witchcraft.
