Bhubaneswar, October 10: Hundreds of students of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Shyamsundarpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district staged a protest on Saturday, alleging severe mismanagement and irregularities at their residential school.
The students marched nearly 10 kilometres from Shyamsundarpur to the Bangiriposi block office, carrying placards and raising concerns over various problems they have been facing at the institution.
According to the protesting students, repeated complaints to the school authorities had failed to yield any concrete action, prompting them to take to the streets to press for a resolution of their grievances.
The students said they planned to cover a total distance of 50 kilometres to bring their demands to the attention of the block administration and the District Collector. They are seeking a permanent solution to the issues affecting them at the school.
The unusual sight of hundreds of students marching along the main road drew considerable attention in the area and highlighted their growing discontent over the alleged mismanagement.
Meanwhile, the administration has swung into action following the protest. Further details regarding the students’ demands and the steps being taken to address their grievances are awaited.
