Bhubaneswar: The six-member team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) led by Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa reviewed the preparedness for the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the State. Elections are due by May in the State.
The Lavasa-led team during their three-day to the state held discussion with different stakeholders, including representatives of political parties, police, Collectors, Chief Secretary, DGP for smooth conduct of elections.
Briefing media persons after taking stock of the State’s readiness, Lavasa said an application ‘cVIGIL’ will be launched in the State to enable citizens to report violation of model code of conduct.
He also informed that at least one all women-managed polling stations will be set up in each Assembly segments under a parliamentary constituency.
The Election Commissioner further informed that Accessibility Observers will be appointed for the first time to make election process more transparent. Earlier, General Observers, Expenditure Observers, Police Observers and Micro Observers are appointed by the ECI for intensive impartial monitoring of the elections.
