Bhubaneswar, August 16: A tragic incident unfolded in the Dayanadi River where a minor boy, swept away by the river's strong current, was found dead after an extensive search operation. The deceased has been identified as Shubham, a student, whose body was recovered on Saturday morning near Gangeswar—approximately six kilometers from the spot where he had gone missing.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on Friday when four students from Nuagaon Uparasahi had gone to bathe at the local ghat. Three of them ventured into the river, unaware of the strong current. While one boy managed to swim ashore, the remaining two were swept away.
Emergency response teams launched a rescue operation, managing to recover one body on the same day. However, the search for the second missing boy had to be suspended after nightfall.
Rescue efforts resumed early Saturday morning, with the Odisha Fire Services team leading the operation. After several hours of tireless effort, Shubham’s body was located and recovered near Gangeswar.
Dhauli police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and sent it to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
