Rourkela, Oct 30: A driver of Rourkela in Sundargarh district has received Rs 4.31-crore tax evasion notice from the GST office, Cuttack. The driver identified as Rajendra Pallai, however, pleaded ignorance about the incident and claimed that he had fallen victim to identity theft. As per reports, Pallai, a resident of Sector 20 has been accused of cheating the government of taxes by claiming input tax credit using fake invoices drawn in the name of a fake company. The letter of the GST office referred him as the owner of a firm, RP Enterprises having a tax liability of Rs 4.31 crore. On the other hand Pallai claimed that he had handed over his Aadhaar card and other personal documents to a person to a man who had promised him a job with monthly salary of Rs 10000. “Those documents might have been used to float a fake company in my name. There should a detailed probe into the incident,” demanded Pallai.
