Union Minister empowers food entrepreneurs through new BioNEST facility
Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the state-of-the-art BioNEST Incubation Centre at the Central Food Technology & Research Institute (CFTRI) today, signaling a major leap for India’s food technology sector. This new facility serves as a bridge, transforming sophisticated laboratory research into commercially viable products for the global market. Located in Mysuru, the center provides specialised incubation suites and shared infrastructure designed to assist entrepreneurs in navigating the complex world of food bioprocessing and biotechnology.
Scaling Innovation through Public-Private Synergy
Success stories are already emerging from this ecosystem. Recent data shows that the BioNEST facility has mentored 26 startups, resulting in 12 patents and numerous research publications. These ventures specialise in high-value sectors including CRISPR-based technologies, precision fermentation, and nutraceuticals. During the inauguration, the Minister interacted with entrepreneurs, stressing that long-term sustainability depends on continuous value addition and robust market links rather than just initial funding.
Bridging the Gap between Research and Industry
India’s food processing landscape is evolving beyond traditional methods. This shift toward science-driven segments like probiotics and botanicals aligns with the government's push for deeper private sector participation. Historically, CFTRI has been the backbone of India's food security and processing standards, and this new initiative reinforces its role as a national hub for enterprise development. By fostering MoUs and launching new industry-driven products, the institute ensures that scientific discoveries do not remain confined to academic papers.
