New Delhi, July 22: The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to entertain a letter petition alleging police excesses against students during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest in Delhi demanding reforms in the country's education system.

The matter was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant by Advocate Narendra Mishra, who had written to the CJI seeking the Court's intervention over the alleged use of lathi-charge, tear gas, and other police action against student protesters.

Refusing to consider the plea, the Chief Justice orally remarked, "Don't waste our time and don't waste yours. We are not interested in videos. We don't have time to watch."

The letter petition had urged the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of the alleged police action, order an independent judicial inquiry, direct the registration of FIRs against officials found responsible, and ensure preservation of electronic evidence, including videos submitted with the petition.

It also sought an investigation into the alleged involvement of individuals in civilian clothes during the violence and requested compensation for those who were injured due to the alleged unlawful or excessive use of force.
