Odisha Woman’s Organ Donation Saves 43-Year-Old Man Through Successful Kidney Transplant

In a remarkable example of teamwork, medical expertise and commitment to saving lives, a dedicated team of doctors successfully performed a kidney transplant, giving new lease of life to a 43-year-old man from Chandrapur in Chhattisgarh.

According to reports, the deceased donor, Durgabati Rout, a 44-year-old woman from Samantsinghpur in Dhenkanal district of Odisha, suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH). Her donation gave new lease of life to the recipient Shuklambar Meher.

The transplant team reported that the recipient is stable and that the transplanted kidney is functioning well, marking an encouraging outcome of the procedure.

The successful transplant was made possible by the coordinated efforts of the kidney retrieval and transplantation teams, along with the anaesthesia team. Their collective expertise and dedication played a crucial role in carrying out the complex procedure.

The kidney transplant team was led by Prof. Jayanta K. Panda, with Dr. Samir Swain, Dr. Sanjay Choudhuri, Dr. Prabhat Mallick, Dr. Sandeep and Dr. Sudhansu as members. Dr. Udayanath Behera and his anaesthesia team provided anaesthesia support during the procedure.
