Puri, May 11: Chief servitor of Shree Jagannath Temple Puri, Ramakrushna Das Mohapatra, was suspened on Sunday over the Digha Jagannath Dham Row.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Puri put Mohapatra under suspension for a month, for his alleged affiliation with the Digha Jagannath Temple in naming it as ‘Jagannath Dham’ Digha.
The senior servitor has been prohibited from entering the temple and performing his duties for Lord Jagannath during the suspension period. Earlier on last Sunday, Ramkrushna was summoned by the SJTA and quizzed on the alleged use of Daru (sacred log) of Puri deities for the construction of the trinity in Digha Jagannath temple.
Notably, controversy deepened over naming the newly-consecrated Jagannath temple at Digha as Jagannath Dham. Apart from it, it was also alleged that neem logs stored in the Puri Jagannath Temple, were used to make the idols here in Digha.
Following this, a series of complaints were lodged against the senior Daitapati Sevayat Mohapatra, and a thorough probe was sought in this connection.
