Positive Signals After Alaska Summit

Roman Babushkin, a top official at the Russian Embassy, stated that based on reports following the summit, President Trump has decided against imposing the extra duties on India. The US had recently doubled the total tariff on Indian goods to 50% as a direct penalty for New Delhi's continued purchase of Russian oil. Babushkin reaffirmed the strength of the India-Russia partnership, stating it would continue "despite external threats."

US Strategy and Shifting Stance

The White House had previously acknowledged that the tariffs on India were a strategic move designed to pressure Russia into negotiating an end to the war in Ukraine.
