Dhenkanal, Oct 15: The 11-day-long Gajalaxmi Puja in Dhenkanal town is all set to begin on Wednesday and preparations are in full swing at 38 pandals in the town.
Members of the Puja Committees are working tirelessly to make the celebrations grand and visually stunning, with the streets adorned with colourful lights and elaborate arches. Dhankanal Gajalaxmi Puja symbolises unity, cultural bonding and brotherhood, as both Hindus and Muslims come together to participate in the festivities, showcasing the harmonious spirit of the town.
In preparation for the event, various meetings have been held by the Puja committees, district administration, and police to ensure the celebrations remain peaceful, orderly, and impressive. This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the Mahaveer Bazaar Laxmi Puja, which will celebrate its platinum jubilee. The organisers have put in extra efforts to make this milestone occasion memorable.
Prominent pandals such as the Shree Shree Maudamani Rajlaxmi Puja, Kaibalya Bazaar Puja, Saubhagyalaxmi Puja in Ganesh Bazaar, and Golden Street Laxmi Puja will showcase exquisite decorations, with idols adorned in silver ornaments. To enhance the festive spirit, several pandals will hold competitions, adding an extra layer of excitement to the celebrations.
Local businessmen are gearing up to take advantage of the festive season, setting up stalls offering a variety of food, toys, garments, and handicrafts. Additionally, the Mahishapata Pallishree Mela will be held from 17th to 25th October, featuring national-level handicrafts.
The celebrations will conclude with the immersion ceremony on Sunday, 27th October, marking the end of the Gajalaxmi Puja festival.
