Bhubaneswar, Sep 30: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday urged people to appreciate the local products of the country and adopt the 'vocal for local' mantra. Pradhan through a video message urged people to bolster the rural economy from Gandhi Jayanti. “Gandhi was a symbol of honesty, integrity, compassion and humanity. On the occasion of the centenary of Gandhi’s arrival in Odisha, I urge people to support 'vocal for local' to encourage the handicraft industry and local artisans. Local artisans are a vital cog in the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” said Pradhan. The minister further said that Odisha is known for its handicrafts and local artisans. “Most of the villages in Odisha are associated with making of unique handicraft products. We need to encourage the local artisans by buying their products. This will bolster their financial condition as their business has been badly affected by the Covid pandemic,” said Pradhan adding that he will visit Athamallik to buy handicrafts from the villagers.
