Jantar Mantar protest: Detained CJP leaders released following magistrate court production

Three CJP figures walk free after dramatic flight interception

Cockroach Janata Party figures Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka walked free on Sunday after experiencing preventive detention. Delhi Police personnel intercepted the trio directly from their commercial flight upon landing in the national capital. Authorities presented them before the Additional City Magistrate court in Delhi Cantonment to complete the procedural requirements under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Responding to the release, the party quickly posted on X that law enforcement was forced into this action, adding that cockroaches never die.

Law enforcement heavily fortified the city before the planned march demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar step down over voter list manipulation allegations. More than 20,000 security personnel spread out across the capital, deploying 6,500 officers specifically near the sensitive Jantar Mantar zone. Authorities established checkpoints, suspended mobile internet services within a four-kilometre radius of Janpath, and temporarily closed several Metro stations to restrict public movement.

Police detained over 3,000 individuals citywide to block the planned demonstration from gaining momentum. Roughly 150 supporters gathered at Connaught Place faced immediate custody. Officers also picked up more than 600 people with prior criminal records as a strict precautionary step. Prominent online influencer Dhruv Rathee, picked up from his Gurugram residence, secured his release by 3 am on Sunday.

Undeterred by the strict police crackdown, the political group quickly announced another gathering at Jantar Mantar. Supporters plan to mobilise again to press their demands against the election chief. Legal representatives from the party confirm they will continue to navigate the ongoing magisterial proceedings required for the released leaders to ensure their continued freedom.
