Bhubaneswar, August 18: A low-pressure system over the west-central Bay of Bengal strengthened into a depression by 5:30 pm on Monday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The depression was positioned near latitude 18.9°N and longitude 85.0°E—about 40 km south-southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha and 110 km northeast of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The system is moving northwestwards and is expected to make landfall along the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coast, near south of Gopalpur, during the forenoon of August 19, 2025.
Authorities have urged residents in coastal areas to remain vigilant and follow official advisories.
