Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court today asked the State Government to take all stakeholders into confidence and speak to religious gurus, including Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati before demolishing ancient mutts and other temples around the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri.
The Supreme Court also asked the State Government to submit status report on eviction drive so far and posted the matter for next hearing on October 22.
On September 17, the Apex Court had asked the State Government to hear the grievances of the people whose land it is acquiring for re-development around the Jagannath Temple.
Meanwhile, SC appointed Amicus Curiae Ranjit Kumar has submitted his report to the court on Puri redevelopment works and the eviction process.
On September 17, Kumar and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had visited Puri at the request of SC and Odisha Advocate General Ashok Parija to take stock of the ongoing eviction and beatification drive around the 12th century shrine.
