The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Gupta, where the proposal to enhance the monthly incentive for ASHA workers was approved.
“ASHA workers are an important link in Delhi’s primary healthcare system. They visit households to provide health-related information, encourage families to get vaccinated and assist with services related to the care of pregnant women and new mothers,” Gupta said.
She noted that ASHA workers also played an important role in providing healthcare services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Gupta, 6,725 ASHA workers are currently working in Delhi. On average, each ASHA worker is associated with around 2,000 people, or approximately 400 families.
The chief minister said the increase in the monthly incentive was an important step towards recognising the contribution of ASHA workers and improving their financial security.
The enhanced incentive would boost their motivation and enable them to continue providing essential community-level healthcare services, she said, adding that the move would also strengthen primary healthcare delivery and promote women's economic empowerment.
