New Delhi, Jan 6: As many as 80 shops were reduced to ashes after a major fire broke out at a market in Chandni Chowk area of Delhi on Thurday.
According to sources, a massive fire broke out at Lajpat Rai Market in Chandni Chowk, which is located opposite to the Red Fort in the wee hours of Thursday in which several shops and stall were charred.
Being informed, as many as twelve fire engines rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
The fire was brought under control by 8 am, said a fire official.
However, no casualties have been reported so far.
It is suspected that, the fire might have broken out due to short-circuit.
The total loss due to the fire mishap can go in crores. The statements of all shop owners are being recorded.
Further investigation into the matter is underway to ascertain the exact reason behind the mishap, said a fire official.
