Delay in justice delivery system stands as barrier between citizens and Judiciary: CJI

​​​​​​​Cuttack, Dec 14: Delay in justice delivery system is one of the major barriers between the citizens and judiciary, said Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant on Sunday.

Addressing a symposium on legal services organised by the Orissa High Court Bar Association at Cuttack, the Chief Justice of India expressed serious concern over excessive delays in the justice delivery system.

The CJI said that there are two major barriers between the common citizens and justice delivery system.

The first one is the high cost involved in litigation while the second is the excessive time taken for disposal of cases & legal disputes due to various systemic problems. Meanwhile, the CJI presented his keynote address on the topic, ‘Ensuring Justice for the Common Man: Strategies for Reducing Litigation Costs and Delays’ and analysed significant issues related to justice delivery system, judicial reforms & sermonized their resolves.

Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant on his first visit to Odisha reached Bhubaneswar on Saturday for the official program at the Saheed Bhawan in Cuttack.

Among others, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Justice Harish Tandon joined the occasion as chief speaker, while Advocate General Pitambar Acharya and Chairman of Odisha State Bar Council, Sitanshu Mohan Dwibedy, attended the symposium as the guests of honour.

Legal experts, advocates and judicial officers also shared their views on the topic with discussing key issues, they do face while delivering justice to the common people alongside discussing their practicable resolves.
