Sundergarh, Aug 2: After the Indian Woman Hockey Team defeated the World No 2 Australia to get into the Semifinals, well wishes have been showered for the players today.
Vice-captain of the team, Deep Grace Ekka’s family from Sundergarh in Odisha expressed their happiness and wished the team to be victorious in the semifinals and final.
Talking about the team’s victory, Deep’s brother David Wilson said, “the team has got through the quarters and surely will be victorious in the semis and finals too.”
Deep Grace Ekka, daughter of Charles and Jayamani Ekka was born in a small village called Lulkidhi in the Sundergarh district of Odisha.
She started playing hockey in school and during a round of hockey selections at her school, she was selected to join the SAI-SAG center of the Sports Authority of India in September 2007. She started playing at the state level at the age of 13 and at the age of 16, she played at the senior nationals in Sonepat.
In 2011, she played at the National Games in Ranchi. She was also selected for the Junior National Camp and traveled to Bangkok for the Junior Asia Cup.
