Bhubaneswar, September 23: A deep depression over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal is currently lying close to the north Andhra Pradesh coast and is expected to cross the coast shortly, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, the system moved west-northwestwards at a speed of 7 kmph during the past six hours. At 8:30 pm IST on Tuesday, September 23, the deep depression was centred near latitude 18.1°N and longitude 83.9°E.

The system was located around 30 km southwest of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 80 km northeast of Visakhapatnam and 160 km southwest of Gopalpur in Odisha.

The IMD said the deep depression is very likely to continue moving west-northwestwards and cross the north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur during the night.

The weather system is expected to cross the coast close to the southwest of Kalingapatnam, the IMD said.
