Berhampur/Kandhamal: The death toll in mini-truck mishap in Kandhamal district rose to 12 as six more people succumbed to the injuries at the Brahmanigaon Hospital.
While seven people were killed on the spot, five succumbed to injuries at Brahmanigaon Hospital.
The mishap took place when the mini truck was on its way to Brahmanigaon village from Gadapur and the driver lost control over the wheels. The vehicle fell off Poiguda ghat road and took a deep plunge into the gorge killing seven people on the spot.
On being informed, police and Fire Services personnel immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies and sent the injured to Brahamnigaon Hospital. At least five people succumbed to the injuries at the Hospital.
Five other critically injured people have been shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the mishap and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed deep grief over the mishap.
