Bhubaneswar, July 27: Dana Majhi, the tribal man from Odisha's Kalahandi district whose 2016 tragedy drew global attention, has filed an FIR against the makers of the short film Laash, alleging that it is based on his life story without his consent.

The complaint, lodged at Patnagarh Police Station in Balangir district, accuses producer-director Manoj Bagh of portraying Majhi's personal ordeal without informing him or obtaining his permission.

According to the FIR, Majhi claimed that the film closely mirrors the events surrounding the death of his wife and the incident that brought him national and international recognition nearly a decade ago. He has sought legal action against the filmmaker for the alleged unauthorised use of his story.

Laash, written and directed by Manoj Bagh, has reportedly been screened at the Indo Singapore International Film Festival (ISIFF).

Dana Majhi came into the spotlight in August 2016 after he carried the body of his wife, Amangdei, on his shoulders for nearly 10 kilometres from the district headquarters hospital in Bhawanipatna to his village after reportedly failing to secure a vehicle to transport her body.

The images of his journey triggered widespread public outrage and drew international attention, highlighting gaps in public healthcare and the lack of emergency transport facilities in remote areas of Odisha.
