Cuttack, June 10: Mangalabag police on Wednesday night busted a dacoity gang and arrested six members of the gang. Police have seized five firearms and as many as 30 ammunitions from the accused. The accused have been identified as Biswajit Das (32), Sanjay Samal (30), Butu Naik (35), Prasant Barik (41), Rajesh Khatua (35) and Subhadarshan Dash (24). Acting on a tipoff, a team of police raided Hadia Patha near river bank of Mahanadi and nabbed the accused while they were planning to commit a dacoity in the area. Police said that the gang was involved in series of property offence cases like burglary, robbery and dacoity in Kendrapada, Jajpur, Balasore, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam and Berhampur. “A special team under the guidance of ACP Special Squad and IIC Mangalabag are working to uncover their criminal network. We are further verifying the antecedents of the accused,” said a police official.
