Cyclonic storm ahead: SRC reviews admin preparedness

Bhubaneswar, Sep 25: Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) is all set to expedite district-level preparedness for the possible cyclonic storm ahead on September 26 and 27. SRC Pradeep Jena, on Saturday interacted with all Collectors in this connection,through a video conference. Especially he alerted the Collectors of Gajapati, Ganjam, Raygada and Kandhamal to get ready  for any untoward situation due to the probable cyclonic storm. He said that, a depression condensed in the Bay of Bengal will intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hrs. It is expected to cross south Odisha- North Andhra Pradesh coasts around Kalingapatnam by the evening of 26 September. The Depression over northeast and adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal moved westwards with a speed of 12 kmph in last 6 hours, intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centered at 0530 hrs IST of 25th September 2021, over north and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal near Lat. 18.4°N and Long. 89.7°F, about 510 km east-southeast of Gopalpur and 590 km east-northeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). It is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 12 hours. It is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh - South Odisha coasts between Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur around Kalingapatnam by evening of 26th September, said Jena.
