Cyclone Yaas to make landfall tomorrow morning, over 2.5 lakh evacuated so far

Bhubaneswar, May 25: The severe cyclonic storm Yaas is likely to make land fall tomorrow morning within 8am-9am near Dhamra, informed Special Relief Commissioner, Pradeep Jena at a presser today. Addressing the press meet Jena said, over 2.5 lakh people have been evacuated to multipurpose cyclone centers by this evening and further evacuation is underway. More than 1000 pregnant women have also been evacuated during this time. Further, he urged people not to venture outside during the cyclone in excitement to click selfies and record videos as this could be dangerous and fatal. Meanwhile, he requested people of respective districts to be affected by the cyclone to store drinking water for 2-4 days so that they do not face problem post Cyclone. The state has targeted to evacuate almost 7 lakh people to safer places for which 6891 shelters have been made for their accommodation. Four districts (Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur) have been kept under red alert.
