Cyclone Jawad: NDRF, SDRF deployed in three districts of Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh/ Puri, Dec 4: Cyclonic storm Jawad is expected to reach the coast of Andhra Pradesh today (Saturday). The administration has made all its preparations to deal with this. Teams of NDRF, SDRF, Coast Guard, and Marine Police have been deployed. A red alert has been issued for the Srikakulam, Vizianagram, and Visakhapatnam districts of Andhra Pradesh. Atleast 11 NDRF, 5 SDRF, 6 Coast Guard, 10 Marine Police teams deployed in three districts of the state, and 54,008 persons have been evacuated from low-lying areas of Vishakapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam. A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm 'Jawad' on Friday. It is likely to move along the coast of Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh and make landfall somewhere in Puri district by Sunday noon before heading out to the Bay of Bengal.
