Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: Nandankanan Zoological Park and State Botanical Garden are set to reopen for visitors starting October 26, after being closed due to the impending cyclonic ctorm Dana.

To ensure the safety of both the park's inmates and infrastructure during the storm, a series of comprehensive measures were implemented.

The park was closed to visitors on October 24 and 25, allowing staff to focus on emergency protocols. All animals were safely housed in feeding cells and secure shelters, with required feed items pre-stored to ensure their well-being, said an official.

A total of 25 dedicated teams, comprising 100 staff members, were stationed across 25 locations within the park, operating around the clock under the supervision of Assistant Conservator of Forests, the official said.

Additionally, seven mobile teams, including personnel from OISF and outsourced paramilitary forces, were on standby for emergency operations. Four control rooms coordinated these efforts, ensuring efficient communication and response.

Thanks to these diligent preparations, there were no injuries or casualties among the animals. The park is now ready to welcome back visitors, promising an enjoyable and safe experience.
