Cyclone Dana: Odisha CM Majhi says, our target is zero casualty

Bhubaneswar, October 24: Ahead of Cyclone Dana landfall, the Odisha government has evacuated 3 lakh people, made More than 7000 cyclone shelters, and ensured the security of pregnant women.

 Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reaffirmed the state government's commitment to ensuring zero casualties as severe cyclone Dana approaches landfall. 

CM Majhi on Thursday outlined the extensive measures being taken to safeguard the state's population, with over 3 lakh people already evacuated and more than 7,000 cyclone shelters prepared.

“Our target is zero casualties. Work is underway to ensure 100% evacuation. So far, more than 3 lakh people have been moved to safer places, including over 2,300 pregnant women. We have made ready over 7,000 cyclone shelters and medical and veterinary teams are in place. Police have been deployed to ensure a sense of security,” CM Majhi said.

The government has stationed generators and power backup systems in district hospitals to maintain essential services. In addition, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams have been deployed across the affected districts.

The landfall is expected near Dhamra Port and Bhitarkanika Park, and CM Majhi has deployed ministers to oversee operations in 10 districts.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari attended a high-level meeting chaired by CM Majhi at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar to review the state's preparedness. 

Meanwhile, Odisha Minister Suryabanshi Suraj urged the public at Chandabali-Ddhamra of  Bhadrak to seek shelter in the cyclone centers, where proper arrangements have been made. Over 25,000 additional people have already been evacuated.

"Teams of ODRAF, NDRF, and volunteers are working to ensure everyone's safety. We are requesting the public to cooperate and take shelter in the designated centers," Suraj said.
