Cyclone Dana: Bangladesh issues warning in coastal districts

Dhaka, Oct 24: Bangladesh has issued an alert as severe cyclonic storm Dana heads towards its coastlines, according to a special bulletin of Country’s Meteorological Department.

Cyclone Dana was centred about 595 km southwest of Bangladesh's Chattogram seaport, some 242 km southeast of the capital Dhaka, the Met bulletin said on Thursday.

Cyclone Dana is expected to cross the Odisha and West Bengal coast in India and then gradually towards Bangladesh's southern Khulna region.

Squally weather is continuing over the north bay, its offshore islands, adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and the maritime ports under influence of the cyclonic storm.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the north bay have been advised to remain close to the coast tion till further notice.

Announcements are being made in coastal Bangladesh districts on loudspeakers urging people to move to shelters.

The Bangladesh government has canceled weekends and holidays for all public servants in coastal districts due to the cyclonic storm.
