Cyber fraud: Retired doctor in Odisha duped of Rs 78.86 lakh

Cuttack, Feb 17: In one of the biggest cyber crimes in Odisha, a retired doctor in Cuttack was allegedly duped of more than Rs 78 lakhs. The victim identified as Sanatan Mohanty has lodged a formal complaint with the Cyber police station in Cuttack.  As per his FIR lodged in Cyber police station, he received a phone call from an unknown caller on February 9. The caller assured to recharge a BSNL number of Mohanty following which he asked for details of his bank account along with the ATM PIN. However, the doctor later came to know about withdrawal of Rs 78.86 lakh from his bank account in phases between February 9 and 15. He also alleged that the fraudsters even withdrew money from his fixed deposits. Police have started an investigation into the incident.
