Cuttack, July 26: In a major breakthrough, Cuttack’s Malgodown Police, in coordination with the Special Squad, has busted an inter-state arms smuggling racket and arrested six accused individuals. The operation led to the seizure of five firearms, 13 live bullets, and four motorcycles from the suspects.
According to Commissioner of Police S. Dev Dutta Singh, all six accused will be produced in court later today.
Sources revealed that police had received intelligence inputs in recent days regarding illegal arms dealings in the city. Acting on the tip-off, joint teams from the Special Squad and Malgodown Police conducted multiple raids across different locations.
During the operation, one arms supplier was apprehended in the Habura area. A preliminary search led to the recovery of a few weapons and ammunition from his possession. During interrogation, he disclosed information about a larger arms network operating across state lines.
Based on the leads, police carried out a coordinated raid, resulting in the arrest of six members of the gang. The group is believed to have been supplying illegal firearms across various states.
Notably, the gang’s kingpin had previously been arrested in 2019, informed DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the network and its links.
