Cuttack admin says no to Bali Yatra this year

Cuttack, Oct 30: The Cuttack district administration today announced not to organise the historic Bali Yatra this year in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. “We will not allow any kind of large gathering like Bali Yatra in view of the Covid-19 situation,” said Collector Bhabani Shankar Chaini. The annual Bali Jatra festival is held at Gadagadia ghat on the bank of Mahanadi in Cuttack every year on Kartika purnima. The festival is organised to pay tribute to the rich maritime history of Odisha. Odia traders, known as Sadhaba Pua, used to start their sea voyages to Bali and other south Asian countries in the past. And now, the open-air maritime fair is organised at the same place near Barabati fort remembering the Sadhabas.
