CRPF officer killed in Mao encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur

Raipur, Feb 12: In a tragic incident, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer was killed and a jawan was injured in a gunfight with the Naxals in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

The deceased has been identified as Shanti Bhusan Tirki, an Assistant Commandant of CRPF’s 168th battalion and a resident of Jharkhand.

According to sources, a team of CRPF’s 168th battalion was out on a road security duty at around 9:30 am when the Naxals started firing heavily at them near a rivulet close to Putkel village under Basaguda police limits. It was retaliated back triggering an encounter in which Tirki was killed and jawan Appa Rao sustained injuries.

After being alerted about the incident, reinforcement was rushed to the spot.

However, the situation is currently under control, and search operation is also underway in the nearby areas, said Bijapur SP Kamal Lochan Kashyap.
