Jharkhand, May 15: A tragic incident unfolded during an anti-Naxal combing operation near the Jharkhand-Odisha border, as a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan lost his life and four others were critically injured due to a lightning strike.
The incident occurred around 5:30 pm yesterday in a forested area under the Chhotanagara police station limits.
According to official sources, CRPF 26 Battalion officer M Probo Singh died on the spot after being struck by lightning. Four other jawans, Subir Kumar Mandal, Suresh Bhagat, Chandalal Hansda, and Jilabal, suffered serious injuries.
They were quickly airlifted to SAIL Hospital in Kiriburu and later transferred to Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur, where they remain in critical condition and are receiving emergency medical care.
