Crematorium attendants ask for bribe to unwrap sealed body, feature goes viral

Keonjhar, June 15: Attendants engaged in a crematorium in Keonjhar allegedly asked for bribe from a bereaved son to show the face of his deceased mother. The attendants demanded Rs.5000 in lieu of opening off only the face seal from the woman’s body before her family members. The incident came to fore when, a video featuring this scene floated up in the social media and went viral. Sources said, Bimala Patra (55) of Krishnapur village under Champua block in Keonjhar district succumbed to Corona in Ranki Covid Hospital. Consequently, the body was sent to Champua crematorium for her last rites. Being informed, Bimala’s son Raju Patra went to the spot and requested the crematorium attendants to show his mother’s face in order to see her for the last time. However, they demanded Rs 5000 for the job that went viral in the social media later on.
