Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: The Commissionerate Police today launched an initiative ‘Prarambh’ to make kidnapping and man missing cell more robust and effective. The Commissionerate Police had earlier started one kidnapping and man missing cell. So far the cell has rescued 241 missing girls. Various police stations in Bhubaneswar have closed 295 kidnapping cases in the last 6 months. Police said that most of these kidnapping cases are in fact elopement cases of minor girls. “Elopement of minor girls has major social consequences. The girl is minor and there is the danger of her landing in an exploitive place. Second, the future of the girl gets affected and the boy on the other hand is treated as a criminal,” said a police official. The initiative ‘Prarambh’ has been launched to prevent such incidents. This initiative has two major components ie- social media/media campaign and outreach programmes mainly in slum areas and workshops in schools and colleges about responsible use of social media. “Another component of the initiates includes counseling, assistance to victims and her family after rescue,” added the police official. Eminent youth icon and board member of Rugby India Rahul Bose participated in the launch ceremony to support the social media, media campaign and help spreading the message of ill effects of minor girl elopement.
