The couple, a youth from Chidi Balsa under Alomanda Gram Panchayat and a woman from Pedalda village, were reportedly paraded through the village holding a plough after allegations surfaced that they were related as brother and sister despite having married.

Koraput, August 11: In a disturbing recurrence of a controversial local practice, a young couple from Chidi Balsa village under Bandhugaon block in Koraput district was subjected to the so-called “bull plough punishment” on Sunday.

The couple, a youth from Chidi Balsa under Alomanda Gram Panchayat and a woman from Pedalda village, were reportedly paraded through the village holding a plough after allegations surfaced that they were related as brother and sister despite having married.

According to sources, village elders conducted a traditional ritual and, following the ceremony, enforced the punishment by making the couple carry a plough, typically associated with bullocks, and walk through the entire village as a form of public shaming.

This incident echoes a similar case reported earlier from Narayanpatna block, where a couple in a romantic relationship faced the same treatment. That episode had sparked widespread outrage after the video went viral on social media, leading to administrative intervention and strong action against those responsible.

The recent incident has once again raised questions about vigilante justice, traditional punishments, and human rights violations in remote tribal areas. No official statement has yet been released by the local administration regarding this latest case.
