Paradip, Sept 2: A couple was killed after their car crashed into a road divider and fell into a water-filled pit near Garh Market in Paradip late Tuesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Bibhuti Bhushan Das and his wife, Pratima Das. Bibhuti had been working in the Marine Department of the Paradip Port and had retired from service earlier on Tuesday.
According to reports, the couple had gone to the house of Bibhuti’s sister at Garh after his retirement. They were returning to Paradip in their car late at night when the accident occurred.
The incident took place while the couple was travelling through the road near the Garh Market Complex to join the highway. Their car reportedly hit a road divider before veering off the road and plunging into a water-filled pit on the roadside.
On receiving information, local residents, with the assistance of police, rescued the couple from the vehicle and rushed them by ambulance to the Atharbanki Community Health Centre. However, doctors declared both of them dead on arrival.
Police have seized the bodies and informed the family members. The Lock Police have initiated an investigation into the accident. Further details regarding the exact cause of the crash are awaited.
