Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today granted interim protection from arrest to BJP leader Bhrugu Buxipatra and Golak Mohapatra in connection with the murder of Chhatrapur NAC Councillor Laxmidutta Pradhan.
The court directed Chhatrapur police to file case diary in connection with the matter. The next hearing will be conducted on March 19, informed petitioners’ counsel Pitambar Acharya.
In February, both the saffron party leaders moved the HC seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the murder of Chhatrapur NAC BJD Councillor Laxmidutta Pradhan after Chhatrapur police summoned them for deposition.
On January 29, Chhatrapur police had issued summons to Mahapatra and Baxipatra to appear before it on February 7 and February 9, respectively. However, both the leaders failed to appear before police citing health-related problems.
They sought additional time of one month for appearance before the police. In the meantime, they moved HC for interim protection.
On September 16, 2017, Laxmidutta was hacked to death by armed men in front of his house at Surya Nagar in Chhatrapur.
