Construction of hockey stadium in Rourkela to be completed by July next year

Rourkela, Aug 18: The construction of Birsa Munda hockey stadium in Rourkela is expected to be completed by July 2022. This was informed by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra after reviewing the progress of work. The stadium is being built to host the Men's Hockey World Cup which will be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela in 2023. The total capacity of the stadium will be 20,000 and once completed, it will be the largest hockey stadium in India. The Chief Secretary and 5T Secretary V. Karthikeyan Pandian today visited Rourkela to review the ongoing progress of various infrastructure works related to the World Cup.   {"align":"center","id":131003,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} Mahapatra directed the district administration officials to ensure that the construction of the stadium is completed within the deadline. He also said that the expansion of Rourkela airstrip and construction of the terminal building will be completed by May 2022. The team also visited Panposh and reviewed the progress of Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium. The proposed indoor stadium will have facilities of three badminton courts, a lawn tennis court and gymnasium for players. During the tour, the delegation also visited the science park and planetarium site in Chhend. The construction work of the science park and planetarium is likely to completed by June next year.
