New Delhi, October 8: Congress MP Kumari Selja expressed deep disappointment with her party's performance in the Haryana Assembly elections, as the BJP is set to secure its third consecutive term in power.

With the latest Election Commission data showing BJP winning 47 seats and leading in one more, the Congress has managed 36 wins with a lead in one additional seat.

Selja, who had been seen as a contender for the Chief Minister's position, lamented the outcome, stating that despite the hard work of Congress workers and their efforts to spread Rahul Gandhi's message in rural areas, their hopes have been dashed. "The results are extremely disappointing. We will need to introspect and see where things went wrong," she said, emphasizing the need for the party to assess its shortcomings.

Selja defeated BJP's Ashok Tanwar in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and was considered a strong candidate for the top post in Haryana. She dismissed any speculation of internal bargaining over leadership positions, affirming her loyalty to the Gandhi family.

Meanwhile, another senior Congress leader and potential CM candidate, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, secured a win from the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi constituency by defeating BJP's Manju.

Earlier, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh raised concerns about a delay in updating vote trends on the Election Commission's website, which the ECI promptly denied, ensuring that the vote-counting process was being conducted per regulations.
