Bhubaneswar, June 30: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Monday held Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CM Pravati Parida, and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan responsible for the tragic stampede in Puri that claimed three lives and injured over 50 people.

In a statement, the OPCC demanded their immediate resignations, citing government failure in managing the crowd during the Rath Yatra festivities. The party also urged the state to increase compensation, seeking ₹50 lakh ex gratia for the families of each deceased devotee and ₹25 lakh for the seriously injured.

Chief Minister Majhi had earlier announced ₹25 lakh compensation for the bereaved families, but the Congress termed it inadequate and insensitive in light of the scale of the tragedy.
