Bhubaneswar: Opposition Congress members today created ruckus in the Assembly demanding sacking of Tourism and Culture Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi for allegedly misusing public money by taking two female friends on an official trip to attend the Odisha Tourism Road Show at Hyderabad.
During the Zero Hour, Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Santosh Singh Saluja and Sura Routray raised the issue in the House alleging that Minister Panigarhi had taken two of his female personal guests to attend the road show on Government expenses.
They also demanded that the House be informed about the relationship between the Minister and the two female guests.
Bahinipati demanded that the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik make a statement in the House on the issue at the earliest and sack Minister Panigrahi for misusing Government machinery and resources for personal work.
Sura Routray and Santosh Singh Saluja also demanded that Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro immediately give a ruling to the Government over the issue. When the Speaker did not entertain their demand, the members rushed into the Well of the House and shouted slogans against the Government.
Unable to run the House, the Speaker adjourned the house for 30 minute at 12.11 pm.
Notably, Congress spokesperson Satya Prakash Nayak on Wednesday in a press conference first raised the issue of alleged misuse of Government money by a Minister and demanded exemplary action against him.
