Compensation to idol makers row: Orissa High Court rejects pleas

Cuttack, Oct 2: The Orissa High Court has rejected the pleas of the petitioners relating to provide compensation to the idol making artisans on Saturday. Hearing as many as 20 Public Interest Litigations (PILs) in this connection, a division bench has issued order in favour of the government. The order said the High Court will not interfere into the government’s ethical decisions on rehabilitating the human resources those who lost their livelihood due to the pandemic. It’s the lookout of Odisha government, how to rehabilitate and compensate the loss of all sorts of laborers with a common principle. Thus, the bench can’t issue any order, specifically for the idol makers for compensating their losses due to the Covid-19 situation, the order said. Worth mentioning, a group of civic bodies had filed PILs at a time, in the Orissa High Court recently, praying for compensation to the idol artisans as they incurred losses due to the implementation of Covid-19 guidelines ahead of Dussehra.
