Jeypore, Sept 24: Koraput's turmeric soap has a growing demand in the American market and it is all set for commercial export of the organic produce of Odisha to the western country. The turmeric soap of Koraput will be exported to Guatemala, a country in Central America, by Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS). "There is a demand for Koraput's turmeric soap in Guatemala. All arrangements have been made to export this herbal soap to the Central American country this year," said Roshan Kumar Kartik, deputy chief executive, ORMAS. District administration, ORMAS, and Mission Shakti are working together to export the soap, he added. "We had sent a small quantity on a trial basis. It has created a market in the country and the commercial export is going to begin soon," said Kartik. Around 1,000 tonnes of turmeric is harvested in Lakshmipur block every year. Twenty members of two self-help groups of Lakhimpur were provided training for turmeric soap manufacturing and financial aid during the Covid pandemic. They are making turmeric soap since 2021 and over 10,000 soap bars have been sold in India and now it has created a demand in the American market.
